The Art of Creating an Effective Container

In my business coaching session last week, my business coach ~ the one-and-only Eleanor Beaton ~ was teaching us about containers. No, not tupperware containers! She was referring to the energetic containers we create within and for our business. The container is HOW we organize and deliver our programming as service-based and impact-driven business owners.

This got me thinking about the carefully created containers we have here at Donais Studios. Each program – The Artist Within private lessons program, Mini Maestros small group classes & summer camps, and RISE choir – each have their own unique container. A container that has been carefully designed to meet the individual needs of each artist within the program and to ensure maximum impact of our programs.

Think about a container for a moment. A container is a vessel used to hold something. A container is durable, effective and carefully crafted to ensure the item inside is cared for based on its specific needs and goals.

Consider a glass vase. It’s a durable vessel, which effectively holds and cares for delicate flowers. Or a durable clay pot that effectively holds soil, water and fertilizer so that a plant can be attentively grown and nourished.

Each member of a Donais Studios program is deeply cared for, supported and nurtured.  Believing in yourself and your abilities is the cornerstone of discovering the Artist Within and the first step in finding your confidence and inner strength: a resilience and grit that stays with you for life.

Our energetic containers are designed to do just that: to help you believe in yourself and to find confidence and inner strength so that you can show up in the world with commitment, conviction and connection.

Now, it goes deeper than just the container. There is also the ATMOSPHERE and GRAVITY which significantly impact the CONTAINER.

Okay, stay with me here. I’m always excited when I find new language for the thoughts in my head!

The ATMOSPHERE of the container is created by the community. We have an amazing community here of supportive, encouraging and collaborative artists. An atmosphere that is free of elitism, ego and the judgment that I often encountered in the arts throughout my life and career.  We have an atmosphere that allows each member to struggle with care and support, and to fly high with the best cheering squad around!

This community is not by accident. It was created with GRAVITY. Gravity is the force of attraction. The creator of the mission and vision.  The clear communication of goals, expectations and boundaries. The gravity allows the atmosphere to function effectively and ultimately allows us all to reach our highest potential and reimagine the way arts education looks and feels in 2022.

Our flowers or plants need a container to thrive, but they also need the right atmosphere and clear boundaries so they can reach their fullest potential.

I know you have heard me talk about the importance of creating a daily practice routine and a sacred space for practicing before: How about reframing practicing as an energetic “container”? What would that look like for you? How would you create the ATMOSPHERE and the GRAVITY to ensure your artistic goals and dreams are accomplished? Some food for thought. We will explore this idea in more detail next week:)

It is hard to believe that there are only three more weeks in the 2021/2022 Donais Studios season. What an incredible season it has been!  Despite the changing restrictions and ups and downs experienced throughout the year, we have continued to allow music to be the light and our community to be a place of inspiration, motivation and encouragement. Thank you for helping to create a beautiful atmosphere here at Donais Studios. Your contributions are valued and appreciated.

Re-registration for next season will be sent out the week of June 13. We are working to create an elegant, effective and energetic container for our programs next season. We look forward to sharing more with you in the coming weeks.

Wishing you a beautiful and energetic day!
