Why Singing Matters (and Why Your Child Should Try It) 🎤

Have you ever noticed how people can’t help but sing in the shower—or belt out tunes in the car? There’s a reason: singing feels amazing.

But it’s more than fun.

Singing is an incredibly personal and vulnerable form of expression—AND it’s also a powerful tool for building confidence, self-trust, and personal transformation.

When a child learns that their voice matters, they begin to trust everything about themselves: their thoughts, their choices, and their feelings.

Here are my top reasons why every child should have the opportunity to sing:

✨ It’s joyful and feels good. Singing is fun and uplifting—pure happiness in motion.
✨ It supports wellness. Singing improves mental, physical, and emotional health.
✨ It builds courage. Performing teaches bravery, resilience, and self-trust.

But don’t just take my word for it. Here’s what some of our students have to say:

Emma – On what she loves about singing:
“How it makes me feel. The feeling when I first step onto the stage is unexplainable – I just feel it so deep inside of me. It makes me feel really happy and fulfilled.”
“How it makes other people feel. When people compliment or remember my art, it makes me feel happy and I realize that my art is making an impact on other people too.”

Elise – On how singing gave her courage:
“Joining choir helped me come out of my shell and try new things, like making new friends and joining clubs in high school.”

Avery – On how musical practice shaped confidence:
“Before Covid I was super shy. Now I’m more confident and outgoing—I feel stronger and more confident in myself after every performance.”

Singing is powerful, transformative, and deeply special. It helps young people connect with themselves—and the world—on a deeper level.

If you’re curious about singing, we’d love to welcome you to RISE Experience Day on Saturday, September 6. This is a completely free, immersive choir event with workshops for singers JK through grade 12. Come try it out, feel the joy, and discover what your voice can do!

Keep singing,
