Red is the colour of courage, and this week we are carrying that spark into our lessons, our practice, and our daily lives as artists. Courage is not about being fearless—it’s about stepping forward even when you feel uncertain. It’s about TRUSTING yourself, TRUSTING the process, and DARING to try something new.
Think of a seed planted deep in the soil. At first, it seems like nothing is happening. But underground, with patience and persistence, roots begin to grow. Then, one day, that seed gathers enough courage to push through the soil and reach toward the light. Your artistic growth is just like that. It doesn’t happen all at once—it takes time, consistent effort, and the courage to keep showing up even when you can’t yet see the full results.
As singers, courage shows up in small but powerful ways:
- Trying a new vocal technique, even when it feels strange and unfamiliar.
- Pushing yourself to step beyond your comfort zone, one note, one phrase, one song at a time.
- Believing that the small, consistent actions you take today will build into lasting and impactful change tomorrow.
Confidence doesn’t appear overnight.Â
It is built—one courageous choice at a time. Just as last week we talked about taking small steps, this week is about choosing to step forward with courage and trusting that each step is moving you closer to the artist you are becoming.
This Week’s Challenge:
Decide and commit to five days of practice this week. Ten to fifteen minutes a day is enough to create momentum, strengthen your voice, and fuel your confidence. Don’t underestimate the power of these short, focused sessions. Small intentional actions, done with courage and consistency, create lasting results.Â
↪️Hot Tip: Connect your practice sessions with a preexisting daily habit or activity so that you don’t forget! This is called habit stacking and will dramatically improve your success:)
September
Â
Each month, we’ll embrace a colour to inspire our lessons, rehearsals, and practice time. September’s colour is RED—the colour of bold beginnings, excitement, courage, and passion. As you continue to settle into your fall routine, let RED remind you to show up with focus, energy, and heart. Keep the spark alive and think RED this week!

This Week’s Focus Word: COURAGE
September 20–26, 2025
Courage is not about waiting until you feel ready—it’s about taking that first step even when it feels uncertain. In your practice, rehearsal, or performance this week, let courage guide you. Try something new, sing out a little stronger, or tackle that tricky passage with determination. Every act of courage, big or small, helps you grow into the artist you’re meant to be.
So, take a deep breath. Step into the red energy of courage. Trust the process. And keep building the artist within—one step, one note, one moment at a time.
Keep singing,
Andrea “burning red” Donais
