✅Are You Set-up for Success?

If you decided to commit to a regular fitness and workout routine, the first thing you’d likely do is research gyms. You’d check them out online, and once you narrowed down your search based on your specific needs, you’d most definitely go for a tour before signing up for a membership.

Your criteria would be very specific. You’d likely be looking for:

Atmosphere – Is the gym clean and well-maintained? Is it bright and energetic, or calm and inviting?
Layout – Is it spacious? Is there enough room and equipment for everyone? Is everything laid out well, with a good flow?
Resources & Equipment – Does the gym have all the equipment I need to reach my goals?
People – Are the staff friendly and welcoming? Are they approachable and willing to help if I have questions or need assistance? Is there support if I need it?
Vibe – Does the vibe match my personality? Do I feel like I fit in? Are the other clients friendly or judgmental? Do I feel comfortable in the space? Will I be able to take risks and try new things?

Most likely, you’d want all these boxes checked and the membership papers signed before you even considered hiring a personal trainer!

➡️ Your artistic practice space is no different than a well-equipped gym. And yet, we often put very little thought into it—and then wonder why our kids resist practicing. Huh… 🤔

If we’re going to ask ourselves and our kids to commit to a consistent, daily artistic practice (aka practice sessions), then we need to thoughtfully consider the space in our homes that is dedicated to this practice.

Does your artistic practice space check all the boxes?

Atmosphere – Is the space clean and organized? Is it bright and inspiring? Does it have a creative vibrancy, or is it calming and peaceful? Is it quiet and comfortable, allowing you to focus?
Layout – Do you have enough room for your art? Is the space laid out well, so you can accomplish your goals? Is there a nice flow?
Resources & Equipment – Do you have all the materials and tools you need? Can you access everything quickly and easily? Are your instruments, technology, materials, and tools at your fingertips?
People – Do you have supportive family and friends around you? Are you confident you can get help if needed? Parents, are you calm and relaxed when your child asks for support?
Vibe – Does the space reflect your personality? Are you comfortable? Is it a place where you want to spend time? Do you feel safe to take risks, make mistakes, and try new things?

🚨 Your environment matters! 🚨

If you want to create a consistent daily artistic practice that you LOVE, it starts with a dedicated artistic practice space in your home. It doesn’t need to be big or extravagant, but it does need to check all the boxes above.

Becoming a musician and artist is a process of learning, growing, and becoming. Learning to love that process starts with a daily connection to your art.

Create the space to grow and develop as an artist, and you’ll be surprised by the results.
